The world is full of negative people who will try to bring you down. In your leadership journey, you will come across people who will tell you this: “Don’t bother trying, you are not cut out to be a leader!”
This can only go two ways. One, you believe what that person said, or two, you brush it off and tell yourself you can and you will…
And yes, you can LEARN to lead. You’re not “born a leader.”
If you believe you can or you can’t… you’re right!
If you believe that you can’t lead, then you’ll give up and you’ll stop trying to be a leader. If you believe you can learn to lead, you’re right… and you’re one step closer to being the best leader you can be.
My podcast is on a journey these days. We are exploring Learning Leadership by Kouzes and Posner. They reference a study that proves a study that reported that a person’s belief in his or her capability to do something—actually affects their performance!
When people say you can’t lead, DON’T LISTEN. Believe in yourself, believe that you can, be ready to learn, and you will get there.
BOTTOM LINE: By telling yourself you CAN, you’ll work harder for it… and it will come to pass!
So permanently plant this in your heart and your mind: BELIEVE YOU CAN.
Next week we’ll explore another fundamental aspect of your leadership journey.
