My # 1 Goal of 2019: Morning Ritual That Works!

Happy New Year everyone.

To LeaderTribers around the world in every time zone, I wish you the happiest new year and God's blessings in your life.

This is the time of year that many people set goals or “New Year's Resolutions.” By far the largest of those resolutions focus on two areas: getting in better shape or meeting some financial goal.

I have written a ton on goals, calendars, and what holds people back. Ultimately it comes down to our habits, and starting a new habit that lasts must be taken in small (micro) steps. For example, if you want to start getting up an hour earlier, don’t set the alarm for an hour earlier. Start going to bed a little earlier, and set the alarm for two minutes earlier! Then then next day, two minutes earlier than that. Keep doing that everyday this month and by the end of January, you’ll be getting up an hour earlier!

If you use that strategy, you’ll probably succeed. If you just try to set your alarm for an hour earlier everyday, chances are your new habit will fail. Be smart!

I only have one new goal for this year, but I believe it will set me up for success in the physical area, the spiritual area, the financial area, and the intellectual area. I want to nail down a morning ritual that works!

Do you know of a good book or resource that I should be reading on this? Please email me at rob@leadertribe.com to let me know.

Here are a few things that I’ve learned already:

1. A great morning routine starts with preparing the night before. Some great leaders set an alarm for when they would start wrapping it up and heading to bed. They say their evening alarm is more important than their morning alarm.

2.    Protect your routine the same way that you would a very important meeting that’s on your schedule. When someone asks, “Are you available for a 7:00 AM breakfast on the 21st?” you should reply, “I can do mid-morning or lunch that day, but breakfast won't work for me.”

3.    Customize your routine to work best for you… change it up or re-engineer it when needed.

What is your biggest goal for the year?

How can I help?
